The goalkeeper is nearing his £3.4m switch from Corinthians, and he would become the club’s fourth signing of the summer window, providing competition to Matz Sels

Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel will reportedly undergo his Nottingham Forest medical this weekend and complete his switch to the City Ground on Monday.

After weeks of speculation, Forest are entering the final stages of Miguel’s £3.4m transfer from Corinthians. According to the Athletic, the 6ft 8in goalkeeper will have his medical this weekend, with Brazilian outlet UOL reporting that he will sign a five-year deal on Monday.

That would make him the fourth signing of the summer at the City Ground with Forest having already welcomed Eric da Silva Moreira, Elliot Anderson, and Marko Stamenic to the club this transfer window. However, Stamenic will spend the upcoming season on loan at Olympiacos.

Miguel’s arrival would allow Forest to further freshen up the goalkeeping department, an area they have had difficult in over the past year. Odysseas Vlachodimos joined Newcastle last week after just a year at the club, while Matt Turner could also depart this summer.

Matz Sels established himself as Nuno Espirito Santo’s first choice after arriving in the winter window, but 25-year-old Miguel will provide strong competition. It’s possible another goalkeeper is signed too, to give Forest a third option, with Wayne Hennessey also having been released this summer.

Miguel’s switch would see him link up with former Corinthians team-mate Murillo again. The centre-back revealed this week that he had actually recommended Miguel to the club last year.

“I heard a few things that Nottingham were interested and I also spoke a lot about him to the people at Nottingham,” Murillo said. “I spoke to my coach, a lot of things… It was when Cassio (Miguel) was still here (at Corinthians). I had just arrived (at Forest), we had a goalkeeper problem. I had recommended him at the end of last year.”
