Rangers have jetted out to the Netherlands for their second block of pre-season training with a squad that still needs some work.

Philippe Clement will be buoyed by the signing of Hamza Igamane who will add depth and energy to a forward line that struggled towards the end of last season.

The 21-year old Morocco youth international is an exciting addition and the latest news will keep Rangers fans spirits up as they grow increasingly frustrated at the lack of experienced or “first-team ready” signings.

Rangers strengthen as Hamza Igamane arrives in Glasgow

Speaking on the announcement of his arrival, Igamane is keen to get started:

“I am really proud to join Rangers and I can’t wait to get started with my teammates.

“It is a huge club, with a loyal fanbase and a lot of history. I am excited for my future here and looking forward to being a part of this club.”

A post on Instagram shows Igamane in the Ibrox trophy room which is a huge positive for Clement.

Hopefully, it is a case of sorting out his kit and finalising the paperwork so that he can join the rest of the squad in the Netherlands.

There is nothing more exciting than seeing a new striker, especially one with potential, playing for the first time and it will be hoped that Igamane can get off to a good start.

The good thing is, there is no pressure on the young Moroccan.

Philippe Clement has shown that he can make tough decisions

All the attention will be on Danilo and Cyriel Dessers and who is starting as the main number nine.

The former won’t be 100% fit just yet but should be ready to start getting minutes.

As for Dessers, despite his flaws, it sometimes gets forgotten that he arrived injured and Michael Beale hung him out to dry a little by trying to play him into fitness rather than going with Danilo, who had been in fine form for Feyenoord.

Clement has shown that he isn’t the type of manager who will keep picking players if they aren’t in form – if he has suitable alternatives available.

He dropped Connor Goldson and left John Lundstram on the bench for the Scottish Cup final too.

Then there was his handling of Todd Cantwell against Aris Limassol when the playmaker clearly wasn’t carrying out the instructions that he had been given.

The manager also has a different approach to players carrying injuries.

Then there is his willingness to give young players a chance and Igamane will get his if he impresses in training.

Hopefully he does in the Netherlands.
