In an attempt to bolster their roster before the Premier League season, Southampton is attempting to sign a 20-year-old midfield player from Ligue 1.

This summer, Russell Martin has already brought five new players to Southampton, with a current emphasis on defensive additions.

center-backs Nathan Wood, Ronnie Edwards, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis have all arrived, and Charlie Taylor, a left-back, joined for free.

Adam Lallana, 36, is the lone attack-minded addition made thus far. He signed a one-year contract when his Brighton contract expired.

Southampton has put in a bid for a Senegal international, suggesting that they are looking to acquire another midfield player.

Lamine Camara, a midfielder for the Metz, is wanted by Southampton.
Due to Stuart Armstrong’s departure from Southampton at the end of his contract and the expiration of Flynn Downes’ loan, Southampton’s midfield options have significantly diminished thus far this season.

Although Downes is West Ham United’s first target this summer, a deal is far from certain with them holding all the cards.

Lamine Camara, a 20-year-old midfielder for the Metz, is an exciting young player whom the Saints are now hoping to recruit.

Le 10 Sport, a French publication, claims that Southampton has “submitted a first transfer offer” for Camara, supporting this claim.

The story continues by saying that, despite the fact that the amount proposed for the midfield player is unclear, it has caused the recently demoted Metz to “think.”

The possibility of this transfer should delight Southampton supporters.

Camara, who is only twenty years old, has already earned 23 senior caps for Senegal and has scored six goals while mostly serving as a holding midfielder.

Camara is extremely versatile and could play the holding role, box-to-box, or even as an attacking midfielder, which makes him an ideal fit for Martin.

Camara is a rising star who earned the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season in 2024 and the Under-20 African Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament in 2023. For his boundless energy, he is compared to none other than N’golo Kante.

The midfielder also won the Goal of the Season award in France last campaign for a remarkable strike from his own half against Monaco.

Perhaps most excitingly, though, is that Camara’s free-kick ability has seen him compared to former Saints skipper James Ward-Prowse; the West Ham man just one free-kick goal off of David Beckham’s Premier League record.

Sport News Africa calls Camara a “fearsome free-kick shooter” before drawing comparisons between Ward-Prowse’s skill and style.

All the indications point to Camara being a player destined for greatness, and if Southampton signs the Senegalese player this summer, they very well could be on that trip.
