Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen are understood not to have active release clauses at Leeds United this summer, Leeds Live reports.

According to Beren Cross for the outlet’s website on 10 July the pair of Whites loanees’ futures remain unresolved more than a week after their respective participation in Euro 2024 came to an end.

Unlike Jack Harrison, who returned to Everton for a second loan after the failure to gain promotion, neither of the defenders have similar exit routes open to them if a club agrees to pay their full salary.

Both departed a year ago, Wober to Borussia Monchengladbach and Kristensen to Roma, on that basis having initially indicated their intentions to stay following Premier League relegation.

Brenden Aaronson to return to Leeds United after Daniel Farke talks

Without any of the baggage of their departures to Europe a year ago the pair of defenders would likely be very useful to Daniel Farke in the Championship.

The Elland Road boss is short of options across his defence after Connor Roberts returned to Burnley at the end of his loan, and with Charlie Cresswell and Diego Llorente sold while captain Liam Cooper has been unable to agree a new contract [TEAMtalk, 3 July].

Wober can play in the middle or on the left, where only the exit-linked Junior Firpo and the equally injury prone Sam Byram remain, with the latter the only right-back now available after the sale of Archie Gray to Tottenham and Jamie Shackleton’s exit.

Brenden Aaronson is set to rejoin the Leeds United squad after holding talks with Farke [The Athletic, 13 June], having accepted the pay cut he escaped last summer, so it is clearly not impossible that Wober and Kristensen follow, and according to Graham Smyth (14 June) the club have not ruled it out.

The Whites are said to be after up to €12million [£10.1m] to sell Wober which is more than loan club Monchengladbach can afford [Florian Plettenberg, 6 July], while there appears to be less of a market for Kristensen.
