Sheffield Wednesday are not interested in signing Scott Wright from Rangers this summer, according to The Star.

Writing on their website (10 July), the news outlet report that the Owls “aren’t believed to have anything in the works” for the winger despite reports linking him with a move to Hillsborough [The Sun, 7 July].

Wright has entered the final year of his contract and is likely to be available for a six-figure fee, but Danny Rohl has plenty of wide options at his disposal and a deal to take him to the Steel City is not on the cards.

Scott Wright must leave Rangers this summer

Philippe Clement has made it clear that he wants to completely rebuild the squad at Ibrox this summer, and there are certain players who simply have to be moved on.

Five of them left when their contracts expired at the end of the 2023/24 season, while Robby McCrorie has left for Kilmarnock too for more regular football. But Wright is somehow still at the club despite being a bit-part player for several years.

He clearly doesn’t have the ability to be part of a successful squad at Rangers and while nobody can question his commitment and heart, that isn’t enough.

A move to Turkey looked nailed on last summer before it collapsed at the last minute, but that can’t be the case again this year.

He is in the final 12 months of his deal and the club must cash in to make some money but also free up a spot in the squad for someone better to come in. If it’s not Sheffield Wednesday, then the board have to find somewhere else for him to be next season.
