The Dallas Mavericks have had an incredible offseason over the last couple of weeks, and they have built a team that is poised to compete in a loaded Western Conference once again next year.

The biggest move of their summer was signing Klay Thompson to a three-year deal, and they also traded for Quentin Grimes and signed Naji Marshall.

Dallas is perfectly reloading their roster around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, and with Summer League in Las Vegas starting tomorrow, some smaller moves are starting to trickle in for the team.

Dallas re-signed Brandon Williams to a two-way contract on Wednesday, and the Mavs also made a move on Thursday regarding one of the players on their Summer League roster.

Dallas Mavericks sign Jazian Gortman to contract

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Mavs have signed Jazian Gortman to an Exhibit 9/10 contract ahead of Summer League. This is now the Mavs’ second-straight move that involved a guard, and Gortman could play his way into a two-way spot.

Last season in the G League, Gortman averaged 9.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 0.5 steals per game while shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from downtown. Gortman wasn’t great as a 3-point shooter last season, but he makes up for it in other ways.

Standing at 6-foot-2 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, Gortman has the frame to be a good guard defender. He is athletic, moves well laterally, and has all the tools to continue to develop on that end.

Offensively, Gortman has a great handle and is extremely shifty. Gortman uses his tight handle to get to his spots and get into a pull-up jumper, and he is also a good finisher around the rim. He uses a variety of finishes to score in the paint, and he also shows off his athleticism whenever he can with some ferocious dunks.

Gortman will have the chance to earn a roster spot for the Mavs at Summer League, and fans should be excited to watch him. He was a five-star recruit in high school, and the potential is there for him to become a rotation player in the NBA as he is just 21 years old.

For all the latest on Jazian Gortman and the Dallas Mavericks throughout Summer League, stay tuned.
