Philippe Clement’s squad aren’t understood to be close to any new arrivals at this moment in time [Four Lads, 11 July] but they are still eager to trim the fat of the playing squad and find new clubs for several first-team stars.
As quoted by Football Scotland (12 July) the Belgian said: “We have some players who have come in who are longer term, like Clinton Nsiala.
“He has a lot of talent, but he needs the experience and he needs to learn a lot of things. I don’t expect him to be a starting player. The same with Hamza Igamane.
“He will not be ready to start. He’s never trained or played physically at this level. He comes out of a holiday too, so we need to build him up. We have other players like Connor Barron and Jefte who can get there faster.”
Will Cyriel Dessers exit Rangers during the summer transfer window at Ibrox?
It seems unlikely that Rangers will be willing to let Dessers leave this summer if Igamane is not ready to come into the fold and start week in and week out in the Premiership from the beginning of the campaign.
Although Danilo is fit again, Clement is unlikely to be eager to head into next season with just the Brazilian and an under-prepared Igamane as his only senior striking options.
Rangers would almost certainly move to replace Dessers if his exit was sanctioned this late in the pre-season preparations.
However, unless there is another target already lined up, letting him leave feels like too big a risk.
