Please respond on a postcard if Rangers has been the subject of any more intriguing transfer rumors in the recent window.

The acquisition of Clinton Nsiala, a defender from AC Milan, may prove to be a brilliant move. Rangers Review reports that Philippe Clement called the adolescent center-half “a lot of talent.”

Likewise, Connor Barron, the “pass master” who was acquired from Aberdeen’s rivals.

Meanwhile, former Rangers striker Kenny Miller claims to have noticed similarities between Alfredo Morelos and £1.7 million player Hamza Igamane in an interview with the Daily Record.

However, in terms of sheer intrigue and ambition, perhaps none of those three agreements compare to the one that surfaced on Saturday afternoon like a bolt from the blue.

Rangers make a shocking approach to sign Joan Jordan of Sevilla.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Rangers have launched an extremely unexpected attempt to get Joan Jordan on a loan from Sevilla, one of the biggest teams in La Liga.

Even though the deal is “currently off,” as Romano says Sevilla would want Rangers to cover every cent of Jordan’s about £70,000 weekly salary, according to Fbref, you can’t criticize the Ibrox team’s ambition.

Rangers have a history of giving priority to young, eager players from outside of Europe’s top leagues under Clement and head of recruitment Nils Koppen. For that reason, Jordan, 30, is a very different kind of target because he is a tried-and-true La Liga player.

Rangers might believe that breaking convention is worthwhile for a player of his caliber.

Although Jordan only appeared in eight La Liga games in 2023–2024, he may have lost favor at Sevilla, but not too long ago, he was thought to be one of Spain’s best center midfielders.

The former Eibar playmaker was reportedly valued at £30 million amid links with Arsenal a few years back, per The Sun. He also came close to joining West Ham before Sevilla’s legendary sporting director Monchi lured him to Andalusia instead.

“I was very close to moving to England,” Jordan told The Athletic two years ago. “I had an interesting offer. “On a financial level, I lost out a bit. As we all know, the financial level in the Premier League is spectacularly strong.

“But I wanted to come here, to improve as a player, which was my objective.”

Jordan is also a two-time Europa League winner.

Sevilla block deal for now

Whether there is still a deal there to be done for Rangers remains to be seen. Perhaps Sevilla will be a little more open to letting Jordan go when Albert Sambi Lokonga – Arsenal’s £17 million forgotten man – seals his move to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla are also signing the long-serving Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez.

But it appears that Rangers’ ambitions will go unrewarded as long as Sevilla are reluctant to accept a deal that sees Jordan arrive on loan while the Scottish Premiership challengers pay only a percentage of his hefty wages.

Jordan, then, may have to accept a pay cut if he is keen to pursue a fresh start on British soil.
