Reporter Fabrizio Romano reports that Leeds United is expected to make another permanent sale—their second-largest of the summer—in exchange for one of Daniel Farke’s new hires.
Archie Gray has already made a significant transfer to Tottenham this summer. Leeds required a significant sale, and at £40 million, Gray was definitely that, especially with Profit & Sustainability Rules a concern and the possibility of losing points.
His departure was entirely profitable for PSR and has kept Leeds clear of any issues. Marc Roca and Diego Llorente are the next to sign a formal contract with the incredibly gifted teenager.
Reunited at La Liga side Real Betis for a combined price of less than £8 million, the pair were both part of Victor Orta’s army of loan players. Kris Klaesson was traded to Polish team Rakow, and Charlie Cresswell was sold to Toulouse.
Leeds will resume this weekend’s £8.5 million Elland Road fire auction.
Sonny Perkins, Jack Harrison, Sam Greenwood, and Darko Gyabi have all been loaned away. Perkins scored in his first preseason game for League One team Leyton Orient, which he played for till he was fourteen years old.
Lew Bate left for Stockport County, and Jamie Shackleton signed a free agent contract with Sheffield United. Following the expiration of their contracts at the end of the previous month, Liam Cooper, Ian Poveda, and Cody Drameh became free agents.
However, one player who signed just a year ago is one who Leeds supporters may not have predicted to go. Glen Kamara, a midfield standout for Leeds that cost £5 million to acquire, is expected to sign with Rennes in France.
Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “Rennes agree deal to sign Glen Kamara from Leeds United for €10m fee, here we go! Personal terms also agreed as Kamara leaves Leeds after last good season.”
It is devastating to lose Kamara and needs to be replaced.
While Joe Rothwell’s loan acquisition is undoubtedly a good addition, Leeds still needed additional players in the center of the park. Although Rothwell was supposed to offer depth, he is currently starting for Leeds.
Leeds’ only middle players are Ilia Gruev and rookie Charlie Crew if Ethan Ampadu stays in defense. Despite being involved, the Wales prodigy has not yet made his senior debut for Daniel Farke’s team.
Jermaine Beckford called Kamara “incredible,” but he leaves a large void as the team’s No. 6; the 49ers will need to move quickly to add a few players before their opening game against Portsmouth.
