Jack Butland could be the next big name to depart Ibrox this summer as Philippe Clement prepares his Rangers squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
The 31-year-old was arguably the best performer for the Belgian after the latter was appointed in October, cementing his spot between the sticks and impressing in both the Scottish Premiership and Europa League.
Those displays have seen multiple clubs take notice of the former Crystal Palace shot-stopper, and it is reported that the Gers could be tempted to sell if a big bid arrives from the Premier League this summer [The Scotsman].
His efforts in goal also prompted praise from the likes of Peter Grant, who stated via BBC Sportscene [25 May]: “He’s been unbelievable for Rangers; a fantastic signing for them.”
With Butland currently at the peak of his powers, Clement must decide how important keeping the keeper really is, or if the club would be better off utilising his transfer money in different areas.
Could Rangers do without Jack Butland next season?
The manager would not be left helpless in the position, with the Gers already signing 28-year-old Liam Kelly from Motherwell, though they must wait until he returns from an extended holiday to see him perform in pre-season [Daily Record].
The keen shot-stopper has proven himself away from Ibrox following his 2018 exit, going on to play for QPR and Motherwell, mostly impressing at the latter on a loan deal before making the move permanent.
He made 133 appearances over the course of three seasons, which has now prompted Clement to bring him back to Ibrox, which could trigger a domino effect in the goalkeeping department this summer.
While it would be disappointing to see Butland leave after just one season at the club, the Gers could certainly put the sale money to good use, with Kelly ready to secure the No.1 spot.
Supporters would not take kindly to his sale, but if it means bringing in large funds to strengthen across the field, it is certainly one worth at least thinking about.
