Sunderland need to pick up the pace in their search for a proven goalscorer.

Sunderland will be hoping that this transfer window is finally the one where they strengthen their frontline.

The Black Cats really struggled for goals last term and will be eager to snap up a striker who can help them reach the play-offs.

There is no doubt that goalscoring forwards are very limited these days, as well as being in huge demand.

Sunderland don’t have many options to bring in and the list is made even shorter by their budget, while the longer they wait, the more likely their target will already have joined another club.

Sunderland should go back in for Nathan Broadhead

The Wearside outfit haven’t been linked with many attackers so far this summer, but one player that should definitely be on their shortlist is Nathan Broadhead.

It may feel like an ambitious move given his importance for Ipswich Town’s promotion, while he is also set to play in the Premier League next season.

However, Ipswich’s long list of forwards has got even longer after they snapped up Liam Delap from Man City.

The Tractor Boys now have five strikers to pick from and also have the likes of Omari Hutchinson and Wes Burns to compete for a place out wide.

Broadhead may not want to return to the Championship, but if there is the possibility of less game-time then Ipswich could consider loaning him out.

The Welshman picked up 16 goal contributions in 38 matches last season and has now won three consecutive promotions – two with Ipswich and one with Sunderland.

Broadhead came close to scoring once in every two games he played for the Black Cats and it was incredibly frustrating when the club failed to re-sign him.

The Ipswich Town star could win his fourth consecutive promotion

The 26-year-old opted against returning to the Stadium of Light as he believed his minutes would be limited, but with no real goalscorer now at the club, he would definitely be one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Given his previous success on Wearside, Broadhead would surely be trusted to replace Jack Clarke, while he could also be stuck up top if needed too.

He could well be worth the price that Ipswich would demand of him, while a loan move would surely be a viable option too.

Sunderland need to make some ambitious moves in the transfer window if they are to challenge for promotion again, and given the advantage they may have because of their previous history with Broadhead, it could be a very smart signing.
