According to CaughtOffside, West Ham United is preparing a £16.7 million bid for Ajax star Steven Bergwijn.

On July 15, the news source revealed that the Hammers were getting ready to make their first offer for the Netherlands international.

This first offer could not be sufficient, it is reported, as Ajax might ask for up to £29.3 million in order to conduct business in the upcoming weeks.

Ready, West Ham United Transfer of Steven Bergwijn
The previous season, West Ham’s attackers failed them down; Danny Ings and Michail Antonio were unable to lead the line effectively enough to score double figures.

Luckily, David Moyes’ team was led by Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, who both performed admirably, finishing ninth.

This is the reason Julen Loepetegui [the Athletic, June 13] has already taken matters into his own hands and brought in Brazilian superstar Luis Guilherme.

He can play on either wing and will help alleviate the pressure on the shoulders of the aforementioned duo, with more potentially set to arrive.

Although Bergwijn’s last Premier League stint didn’t quite go to plan at Tottenham, he could be exactly what the Hammers need.

Bergwijn’s name keeps coming up despite the club being linked to a number of attackers [De Telegraaf, July 13].

With his ability to play all three forward positions, he would undoubtedly take over as West Ham’s main man in the final third at the London Stadium.

In the days ahead, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
