After seeing their team’s most recent preseason game, Sunderland fans probably felt a little let down. The Black Cats lost 2-1 to non-league rivals Gateshead.
Even though Jack Clarke scored during the run-out, Wearside’s Regis Le Bris is now closely monitoring which players he wants to retain and whom he may be able to let go of in light of that defeat.
After just one disappointing season, Nazariy Rusyn has been linked to a move away from Sunderland. If the Black Cats determine this move is essential, Rusyn may not be on the team when the next Championship season begins.
Sunderland might reapply for the EFL star.
Previous reports had it that Sunderland and a plethora of other EFL teams were considering making a move for Burnley forward Scott Twine during this transfer window.
But now that the football journalist Alan Nixon has revealed on social media that no team interested in the 25-year-old star has submitted a bid that the Clarets are happy with, all of the chatter has cooled off.
After spending the entire 23/24 season anxiously looking for a talisman to lead the line, Sunderland fans may find their prayers answered if they can come up with a figure of money that Scott Parker and company would consider sufficient. The in-demand Burnley player could be the answer.
What Scott Twine has to give Sunshine
Rusyn’s brief stay in England may come to an end with Le Bris signing Twine, who scored a lot of goals while on loan from Turf Moor last season in the second division. The Frenchman is hoping to make an impact on a Sunderland team that desperately needs revitalization.
During the 21/22 season at the Black Cats, Twine will look to replicate the lofty heights he achieved when he was still on the roster at Milton Keynes Dons. In one intense League One match, he sucker punched Plymouth Argyle with four strikes of his own creating.
After a stellar season in which he contributed 33 goals from 50 games overall, Burnley moved quickly to sign him, even though he was now plagued by ailments during his stay in Lancashire.
When healthy, Twine has scored nine goals in 49 appearances at the level. The 25-year-old scored two goals last season at MK Dons while playing under Liam Manning’s close supervision at Ashton Gate.
Manning even described Twine as a “terrific” talent when he was still on the books at Milton Keynes, with the Robins previously named as another side wanting to snap up the injury-prone gem this summer, away from Sunderland being keen.
Although the former MK Dons player hasn’t always been an effective center forward in his EFL-dominated career, Le Bris could mold him into one. Sunderland needs a goal-scoring player to lead the line after Rusyn managed just two goals in 21 Championship games.
Given Twine’s preference for a second striker position, Jobe Bellingham may soon face increased competition in this role. However, given his 43 EFL goals to far, it’s possible that Twine may be thrown into the deep end as Sunderland’s next experiment at center forward.
