Nottingham Forest could take a big step towards securing the signature of defender Nikola Milenkovic today.

The Reds are looking to get a deal for the Fiorentina centre-back over the line to strengthen an area of the pitch desperately in need of additional resources. And according to reports from Italy, the club are very close to making the 26-year-old their fifth signing of the summer.

According to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for the sale of the Serbia international. It is said he will undergo a medical today with a view to completing the move.

Reports suggest a five-year contract is in the offing, which would keep him at the City Ground until 2029. Forest will reportedly pay an initial £12 million for his services.

If all goes to plan, Milenkovic will follow Carlos Miguel, Elliot Anderson and Eric da Silva Moreira in linking up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. Marko Stamenic has also put pen to paper for the Reds this summer but will spend the season on loan at Olympiacos.

Nuno made clear after last Saturday’s opening friendly that bolstering his winger options was a priority. But central defence has also been in need of attention, too.
