Viljami Sinisalo, the goalkeeper for Aston Villa, has officially joined Celtic, according to sources who spoke with Football Insider.
The Scottish squad officially announced that the 22-year-old had signed a five-year contract and had already reunited with his teammates.
The Finland international had been spotted at Glasgow Airport today in a club tracksuit as the club prepared to fly off to embark on their US pre-season tour.
During his loan season with Exeter City last year, Sinisalo made 45 appearances in League One and preserved 13 clean sheets.
Viljami Sinisalo was signed by Celtic to offer competition.
Sinisalo is expected to join the team first as Schmeichel’s backup goalie due to his greater experience.
In addition to being Celtic’s first choice, the former Leicester City goalkeeper will guide Sinisalo during his tenure.
If Sinisalo keeps improving, it is anticipated that, given Schmeichel’s age, he will eventually replace him as the starting goalie.
Following Joe Hart’s retirement at the end of the previous campaign, Celtic needed a goalkeeper, and they now have two on the roster. The Scottish Premiership winners are in the running.
Since Hart made 153 appearances and maintained 64 clean sheets, both goalkeepers at Celtic Park will be under immediate pressure.
