L’Equipe reports that Leeds United and Rennes will engage in “intense” talks on Crysencio Summerville.
On July 16, the French publication stated on its website that the Whites winger would not be opposed to joining Ligue 1 after the midfielder signed the same day, Glen Kamara, his former colleague.
A deal for the Dutchman is thought to be tough thanks to the presence of transfer interest in England but the French club are looking to further take advantage of Leeds’ failure to gain promotion by signing a second important player.
Summerville has another two years left on his contract at Elland Road and is reportedly worth as little as €20million [£16.8m].
Glen Kamara has signed for Rennes after one Leeds United season
It appears the tempo of Whites departures is only increasing with Kamara’s exit which BBC Sport reported on 16 July was for less than €10m [£8.4m].
It comes as a verbal agreement for Rasmus Kristensen is close with Eintracht Frankfurt [Florian Plettenberg, 16 July] and after Everton reignited their interest from last summer in signing Willy Gnonto [Sky Sports, 15 July].
Following Archie Gray’s transfer to Tottenham, Marc Roca and Diego Llorente have already joined Real Betis, and now it is said that the Spanish team wants to add Junior Firpo [ABC, 16 July].
Some of those confirmed or projected departures will annoy fans far more than others, but it is obviously concerning if players like Summerville and Gnonto are still considering departing even after two key starters from the previous season—Gray and Kamara—have already made the ultimate sacrifice.
Less than three weeks remain until the Championship season begins on August 10th, even if all of the money acquired in this period is used to sign replacements rather than being used to pay off debt from previous deals.
The turmoil in the first few weeks of the season contributed to the team’s failure to finish in the top two last season, so Daniel Farke doesn’t need to deal with it again.
