Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has promised fans that a new right-back will be in the building THIS weekend.
The Turkish side have been linked with a move for Rangers captain James Tavernier, with reports suggesting that they’ve lodged an official offer. A switch to the Super Lig club would see him reunited with ex-Ibrox teammates Borna Barisic and John Lundstram, who both joined Trabzonspor earlier this summer.
Trabzonspor are in the market for a new right-back after Belgium international Thomas Meunier triggered a release clause in his contract, with a move to Lille on the cards. Turkish outlets suggest that Boavista star Pedro Malheiro is poised to replace him, with talks at an advanced stage.
But Dogan has vowed the club will continue splashing the cash, with Gers ready to sell 32-year-old Tavernier if his value is met.
He said: “The only goal is a Trabzonspor at the top. We will show an exciting Trabzonspor in the new season. We made six transfers, we will make six more. We will announce our transfers one by one after tomorrow.
“Our plan B was ready and we took action immediately. Our new right-back will arrive in a day or two. Our only thought is to create a team that makes the fans happy, stands tall on the field and fights. Our fans should not worry. Trabzonspor will fight for the top.”
