New addition Jayden Bogle has explained his decision to join Leeds United. Bogle’s arrival was officially announced on Saturday evening.
The right back has joined from Sheffield United on a four-year contract, becoming Leeds’ fourth summer signing. Speaking to Leeds United’s official website, he said: “I’ve played here (Elland Road) before and the atmosphere before a game is crazy…Even looking at it now [Elland Road] when it’s empty it looks amazing so I can’t imagine what it’s like when it’s full.”
He continued explaining his attitude towards ‘big games’ which will be in abundance next season in Leeds’ quest for promotion to the Premier League. He said: “So, you have to be at it and if not, you can get punished. The club is good in that sense because we’ll be approaching every game to win. Playing in big games always helps players, especially when you can try and play your best too, so I think that’s important. It’s what I’ve come to the club to do, to play my best and give my all for the club, to create some history together.”
The 23-year-old is no stranger to Championship football – he featured 20 times in the Blades’ promotion-winning season of 2023/23. He also made 34 Premier League appearances for the South Yorkshire side last term contributing with three goals as the Blades suffered relegation from the Premier League.
“It’s amazing [to sign for Leeds],” he said. “It’s a great feeling, a massive club and a massive opportunity, I can’t wait to get going.
“I knew there was interest and since I heard it, this is where I wanted to be. As I said, it’s a massive club and opportunity, a fantastic team, great staff, so I am really excited.
Bogle played on the right flank for much of last season – in a five-man defence. He can operate at right-back or right wing-back.
The England Under-20 international learned his trade at Derby County after a brief stint at Swindon Town. He broke into the Rams’ first team in 2018 featuring frequently for two seasons before his move to Sheffield United in 2020.
“I am comfortable on the ball, I like to get forward and create chances, but be defensively solid and strong,” said Bogle. “I like to have good positioning too, and just be a big part of the team basically, to commit going forward and defensively as well.”
