The dearth of transfer action at Leeds United prior to Jayden Bogle’s arrival was a cause for concern for the Whites supporters, and the loan acquisition of Joe Rothwell did little to allay fears.
The arrival of the now-former Sheffield United defender has, at least, shown irate segments of the Elland Road supporters that Leeds is willing to spend big when it comes to signing a player. Reports state Leeds paid a “significant” undisclosed fee to sign the 23-year-old to a lucrative four-year contract.
That has arguably resolved one of Leeds’ more troublesome locations on the field, and another target may be able to bolster Daniel Farke’s team moving forward—a region where problems have also beset them in the past.
Leeds is working hard to acquire a new striker.
Football writer Graeme Bailey reports that Leeds is competing with other teams to recruit Daniel Jebbison, a potential center-forward who was previously a member of the Blades.
After just signing the 21-year-old on a free transfer, AFC Bournemouth is willing to let its new acquisition temporarily drop down to the Championship, and Bailey has disclosed that clubs like Sunderland are also in the running to take the player on loan.
Having never reached his full potential for Chris Wilder’s team in South Yorkshire, Jebbison could finally blossom in the men’s game at Elland Road, particularly if Bogle is tearing up the field from full-back to create scoring opportunities for him.
Jebbison’s capabilities Leeds United and company will be hoping that Jebbison, who was born in Canada, can eventually establish himself as a productive striker in the men’s game. In his six appearances as a youth player at Bramall Lane, the attacker scored six goals.
In the 2021–2022 season, the 21-year-old also scored nine goals from 23 games while on loan at Burton Albion in League One. However, he was released this summer after failing to establish himself as a consistent goal scorer for the Blades in the men’s lineup, managing just three goals from 35 games.
Nevertheless, as demonstrated by his first goal for United above—which came about despite the 21-year-old only accumulating 33 touches of the ball throughout the match—Jebbison has proven that he can be the “handful” that Lewis Cook described him as from limited opportunities in the past. The goal also allowed his side to win a close match against Everton 1-0.
If the current Cherries player were to wear a Whites jersey, he might potentially thrive when sent into space by players like Daniel James and Georginio Rutter, bombing forward and forming a productive relationship with fellow former Blades player Bogle in the process.
As can be seen above, Bogle won’t be content with just doing his basic defensive duties this season in West Yorkshire and will make Leeds even more of a terrifying prospect going forward, with nine goals and four assists amassed across his four-season stay at Bramall Lane.
For context, those key pass and shot numbers are a great deal more than Archie Gray’s first foray into senior football, the teenager amassing a combined haul of 0.7 in the Championship last term.
As a result, Jebbison should find it easier to net goals away from the shackles of infrequent game time with United being lifted, therefore, with Patrick Bamford even going through a purple patch of form last season surrounded by Rutter and more top Leeds gems, after previously losing his way in front of goal.
It will be intriguing to see who Farke chooses as his main man up top next campaign, with Mateo Joseph also knocking on the first-team door repeatedly now, as Jebbison’s name is talked about as the next new incoming.
