From a Nottingham Forest perspective, there will be a lot of transfer rumours flying around – some of them will be legitimate and others simply won’t.
The Reds have been quite active so far, signing five players with one of them – Marko Stamenic – heading straight out on loan to Olympiacos.
Forest do still have some gaps to fill in their squad, however, and the off-season business won’t be completed just yet.
That means that some idle links will continue to emerge, with one doing the rounds yesterday that simply doesn’t make a great deal of sense.
Nottingham Forest linked with Kelechi Iheanacho again
This report comes from Soccernet who believe Forest and Ipswich will do battle to sign the Nigerian free agent.
Iheanacho spent seven years with Leicester, scoring 61 goals in 232 appearances after signing for the club from Manchester City.
With the Citizens, he won a number of trophies – but not a Premier League crown – and scored 21 goals in 64 appearances.
Now, he’s a free agent and this isn’t the first time that he’s been linked with a move to Forest since the club returned to the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers is a huge fan of the striker and he called him ‘fantastic’ when he was managing him at Leicester five years ago.
If that praise wasn’t enough, Pep Guardiola called him ‘incredible’ when he was managing him at Manchester City, despite letting him leave.
Forest signing Iheanacho wouldn’t make a deal of sense
Although Iheanacho does have a lot of experience in the Premier League, it wouldn’t make sense for Forest to leave it this long to sign him.
Given that he’s a free agent, if the club truly wanted him to form a part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad then surely they’d have landed him by now.
Instead, he remains without a club and is currently doing some pre-season training on his own and waiting for the phone to ring.
Last season was hardly impressive for the 27-year-old either.
Despite Leicester’s dominance in their Championship campaign, Iheanacho scored just six goals and registered three assists from 26 appearances.
Whilst in our view, Iheanacho isn’t a bad player, we just don’t think he’s right for Forest and better striking options are currently out there.
