Leo Østigård hasn’t had much of an influence at Napoli, but his sale appears to be expected to bring in a sizable profit for the team. The defender’s departure from the previous Italian champions may benefit Brighton & Hove Albion monetarily as well.
The Norwegian center back is reportedly close to joining Ligue 1 team Rennes, according to a recent report from Gianluca di Marzio.
The player had expressed interest in joining Julien Stephan’s team, and Rennes would have to pay him a fee of €7 million for the transfer.
Beyond this, CalcioNapoli24 examines the financial details of the transfer. According to them, Napoli will benefit financially from the departure because they signed Østigård for €5 million plus bonuses from Brighton in 2022.
He signed a contract that was good until the summer of 2026, thus 70% of it has been written off, and his value is listed as €1.5 million on the Napoli balance sheets.
However, Brighton would only receive €1.4 million of the €7 million total because of a 20% resale option in the agreement.
Therefore, after accounting for Brighton’s resale portion and Østigård’s worth in the current arrangement, Napoli will receive €4.1 million from the exit.
