A number of teams have made offers to sign James Rodriguez, a former midfielder for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, including Nottingham Forest.

In this summer’s COPA America, the Colombian was a revelation as he guided his country to the championship game, where Argentina narrowly defeated them. TBR Football claims that a number of teams, including Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, have been in contact with the superstar and have been given the opportunity to sign him. The superstar is eager to establish himself in England’s top flight once more.

After playing for a while in Greece with Olympiacos, Rodriguez, 33, spent the previous season at Sao Paulo. Forest has a tie to the Athens-based team because owner Evangelos Marinakis owns both clubs. In 23 Super League games during his tenure in Greece, he averaged just over one goal involvement per game (five goals and six assists).

After an outstanding 2020–21 season at Everton, when he scored six goals and provided four assists in 23 games while playing for the same team as Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, he also has Premier League experience.

During Ancelotti’s first stint at the Bernabéu, the offensive midfielder made waves at the 2014 World Cup, most notably by scoring a spectacular volley against Uruguay that helped earn him a £63 million move to Real Madrid. Rodriguez eventually couldn’t fulfill his potential in the Spanish capital due to injuries, so he transferred to Bayern Munich, where he was still productive but always on the verge of another injury.

In 2020, the Real Madrid manager summed up Rodriguez by saying, “He’s a great, talented player.” He never loses possession of the ball, misses passes, or misses shots that are on target. He plays simple football and doesn’t consider it to be a sophisticated sport.

The 33-year-old is currently free to sign with another team, but his pay would be high, and it’s unclear how the club feels about a transaction of that nature. But if he did show up at the City Ground, Morgan Gibbs-White, another offensive midfielder, would surely gain motivation from playing with one of the top midfielders of the past ten years.
