Trabzonspor could be Wout Weghorst’s next destination.

The Turkish side’s boss Abdullah Avci has admitted that he is keen to get a deal over the line for the Netherlands international, who is currently at Burnley but could leave Turf Moor before the end of the summer transfer window.

He told Isci Haber (via Turkish Football): “We did not get enough of (Southampton striker) Onuachu last season.

“He first went to the African Cup with the Nigerian national team, then suffered an injury.

“I don’t want to face the same problems again, that’s why Weghorst is a name that suits us better. If we finalise his transfer, it will be an important development for us.”

If Avci’s side do manage to get a deal over the line for him, they will be getting a player who has proved himself at both a domestic and international level, playing for some elite clubs during his career.

He may not have been able to make a huge difference for former loan club Manchester United, but the fact he appeared regularly for the Red Devils during his short stay at Old Trafford just goes to show how highly he’s rated.

Performing well at the highest level and stepping up in big moments, signing him would be a no-brainer for the Turkish Super Lig outfit if they can afford to recruit him.

Wout Weghorst could benefit from securing Trabzonspor move

A move to Turkey wouldn’t allow him to perform on a huge stage, but it’s a country where he’s thrived before.

During the first half of the 2022/23 season, the Dutch player moved to Besiktas on loan and proved to be a real asset, with his scoring rate reinforcing just how much of an attacking threat he was.

With the player plying his trade for United and spending a season in the German top tier since then, he has only been able to pick up more experience and that should make him an even better player.

If he can perform well for Trabzonspor, he’s likely to be a guaranteed starter there and that should only increase his chances of being called up to the Netherlands squad in the future.

If he can thrive in the Turkish top tier again and continue to appear for his country, that should satisfy the striker, who ideally needs to find a permanent club after going on a few loan spells.

However, he could be a free agent next year, even if he goes out on loan. Another successful loan spell in Turkey could allow him to secure a permanent move to the Eurasian country.

Burnley should look to offload Wout Weghorst

According to Alan Nixon, Weghorst is keen to secure an exit from Turf Moor this summer.

That comes as no surprise, considering the player has been on numerous loan spells since his arrival in Lancashire.

It has been reported that the Clarets’ boss Scott Parker is happy to work with the player, but the striker is keen to play at the top level somewhere else and that stance could push the player closer to the exit door.

With his stance in mind, the Lancashire should be looking to offload him, because the club can’t afford to carry players that don’t want to contribute to the cause following their relegation.

Weghorst is clearly a talented striker who could be a huge asset in the Championship, but he is likely to be earning a high salary and with his contract expiring next year, offloading him permanently would be ideal.

Even a loan exit could suit the Clarets, who probably won’t want to pay his wages during the upcoming campaign.

The Clarets, the player and the Turkish side should all be working together to get a deal over the line – because it could end up working out well for all parties.
