Gretar Steinsson, the technical director of Leeds United, is in Germany to attempt to finalize an agreement with Austrian international midfielder Dejan Ljubicic.

Leeds has had a challenging summer as they may have to sell several of its best players in the wake of their unsuccessful bid to return to the Premier League.

Archie Gray, a teenager, signed a £40 million agreement to join Tottenham, and Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville have all been heavily linked to Premier League moves.

After losing Glen Kamara as well, Leeds are in a difficult situation, especially in midfield where Steinsson is trying to finish.

In their pursuit of FC Koln midfielder Ljubicic, the Whites are said to have already had a bid of £3.37 million for the Austrian turned down.

According to MOT Forum, Leeds has sent technical director Steinsson to Germany in an attempt to push a deal through, and they plan to test Koln’s determination with a stronger offer.

Given that the Austrian’s contract with the German second division team only expires in 12 months, it would seem that the two teams may come to an agreement.

The 26-year-old, who came from Wien of Austria, joined the German team in 2021 and has made 83 appearances for the team, scoring eight goals.

Daniel Farke might find the midfielder appealing because of his versatility in playing as a number six, on the right side of midfield, and both.

Ethan Ampadu is now a midfield player for Leeds, and Ljubicic would make an ideal partner for the Welshman who is more defensively inclined.

In order to win the Championship a second time around, the Whites will need to add more talent, and considering the players they will probably have to sell, they should have a sizable budget to bolster their team.
