Following his departure from Huddersfield Town earlier this summer, Brahima Diarra has attracted the eye of Burnley, Hull City, and Leeds United.
This is in line with a story from Foot Mercato, which claims that the midfield player, the Championship trio, and Premier League team Leicester City are all being pursued by several European teams.
Apart from a brief loan stint with Harrogate Town during the 2021–2022 season, Diarra has been a member of Huddersfield throughout his whole senior career.
He did, however, leave the Terriers at the end of the previous season due to the expiration of his contract and the team’s relegation to League One, making him a free agent this summer.
However, it now seems Diarra might have the opportunity to return to the Championship quickly the following season.
A free agent midfielder is desired by Burnley, Hull, and Leeds.
Burnley, Hull, and Leeds are all interested in perhaps bringing the 21-year-old to the Championship this summer, according to the most recent report.
But the three teams don’t seem to be the only ones interested in signing the midfield player before the upcoming campaign begins.
Verona of Serie A and Leicester City, the recently promoted Premier League team, are reportedly also interested in Diarra.
Top-flight clubs in France and Belgium are also reported to be monitoring the situation around the Mali international.
Diarra is currently competing with his nation’s Under 23s side at the Paris Olympics, where he is apparently hoping to catch the eye as he looks for a new club.
He played 74 minutes of his side’s opening game, a 1-1 draw with Israel, on Wednesday afternoon.
It is thought that the midfielder will decide on his next destination once that tournament has come to an end, although any English club wanting to land Diarra would have to pay training compensation to Huddersfield, given his age, academy graduate status and the fact he was offered a new deal.
Burnley are looking to bounce back after relegation from the Premier League to the Championship at the end of last season under new manager Scott Parker.
Leeds’ season ended in disappointment as well when they lost to Southampton in the Championship play-off final, which prevented them from moving up to the top division.
Hull, on the other hand, finished third in the second division, three points outside the play-offs, and Tim Walter took over as manager at the MKM Stadium to start a new chapter in the team’s history.
Potentially, Burnley, Leeds United, or Hull City could gain from Brahima Diarra.
One may argue that, given that all three of these interested clubs need to bolster their center midfields, the former Huddersfield player may be a good addition.
From the roster from the previous season, Leeds lost Jamie Shackleton to Sheffield United, Archie Gray to Tottenham, and Glen Kamara to Rennes. They still haven’t signed a midfield player.
Hull has also not added any players to their roster in that role, even after losing players in the summer like Tyler Morton, Greg Docherty, and Ozan Tufan.
Jack Cork left Burnley, while there is still uncertainty around Sander Berge’s future due to claims of a proposal from Fenerbahce.
Since the window began, they have also been waiting to expand their options in the middle of the park at Turf Moor; yet, given their bloated squad, outgoings might take precedence for the time being.
Diarra has the potential to develop into a better player over the next several years, and all three teams could use the added depth he would provide in the middle of the field.
It would also be beneficial to sign him for a low price to make sure there are funds left over for any other signings that might need to be made this summer.
In addition, Diarra’s degree of interest guarantees that any team that can close a deal for him may consider this signing to be a bit of a coup.
However, it is arguably also worth noting that the midfielder was never able to really make himself a regular feautre in a Huddersfield side that struggled in the Championship in recent seasons.
Considering how the previous season went for Leeds, Hull, and Burnley, it’s likely that all three will be aiming for Premier League promotion in the upcoming season.
Because of this, there might be concerns regarding how much of an influence Diarra could have on the trio at that point in the upcoming season and beyond.
In light of this, teams like Leeds, Hull, and Burnley may have a lot to consider when considering a summer transfer for Diarra.
