Sander Berge’s midfielder is eager to transfer, and Burnley has received a bid for him from Fenerbahce, according to Fotomac.
Burnley’s 2023–24 season was miserable as they were immediately demoted back to the Championship.

There were great expectations for their prospects of securing a spot back in the second division and resuming their play after they were brought back to the Premier League by Vincent Kompany. That didn’t work out, though, as a lengthy season resulted in relegation.

Since then, Scott Parker has taken Kompany’s place at Bayern Munich. The two-time Champion promotion winner is committed to guiding the Clarets back to the top division.

But important players’ exits appear likely, and standout player Sander Berge is starting to draw interest.

Fenerbahce, a Turkish powerhouse, is reportedly in the running for Burnley’s midfield player, according to Fotomac. The Championship club’s response and the amount of the offer are unknown, but Berge, a Norwegian international, is “keen” to join the team.

After finishing second in the Super Lig the previous season, the Istanbul giants are attempting to make a run at the top of the Turkish league. They are coached by the renowned Jose Mourinho, whose influence may make it difficult for Berge to reject a move.

A shining light

In a really tough season at Turf Moore, Berge was a standout.

He had previously made an impression with Sheffield United in the Premier League. It was therefore quite unexpected because, the season before, he had fallen to the Championship with them.

But having taken that risky move, he spurred them back to the top flight, even though it was time for a change of scenery and a move to Lancashire.

The 26-year-old contributed to 40 Burnley games across all competitions with two goals and two assists. His passing ability, driving runs from midfield, and defensive efforts proved he was a highly capable player.

The appropriate action?
Berge shouldn’t plan on dropping to the Championship once more.

Should Burnley’s aspirations to return to the Premier League come to fruition, they will require players such as the formidable Norwegian.

But he needs to consider leaving the Championship if it means playing in the Championship for another season in his peak. Fenerbahce might be that path, providing Berge with the chance to play at a high caliber and expand his horizons once more.

It will be interesting to see what choice he picks and how serious Fenerbahce is about signing him. However, this might be the midfielder’s best course of action.
