According to Sportime, Jose Cifuentes has been persuaded to sign a loan agreement with Aris Thessaloniki by Rangers.
On July 27, the Greek news outlet announced on their website that Cifuentes, a 25-year-old, would be joining Aris on a one-year loan that includes a buyout option.
It is believed that Aris was able to sign the Ecuadorian international by providing him a record-breaking contract; however, he still needs to formally end his current loan agreement at Cruzeiro in Brazil.
According to Sportime, Cifuentes was enticed to Greece with a contract paying at least £16,000 per week. Journalist Nikos Markatos refers to it as “crazy money,” noting that it is greater than the salary that former Aris striker Aboubakar Kamara received when joining the team in 2021 after leaving Fulham.
Jose Cifuentes signs a “crazy” contract to rejoin the Rangers.
Rangers supporters will be hoping that Cifuentes makes a permanent change this time.
Last year, Michael Beale made every effort to sign the Ecuadorian international from LAFC. He first noticed him in January and followed up with him again in the summer when a deal was eventually reached.
But this move, when all that money and effort went into buying a total and total flop, was the one that most encapsulated Beale’s time at Ibrox.
Last season, Cifuentes made 20 appearances for the Light Blues in all competitions. However, he was only given six starts in the Scottish Premiership and never made a game versus Celtic.
Then, in February, he left on loan to Cruzeiro in Brazil, with many believing that the former CD America ace would benefit from going back to South America.
He has only appeared in 12 games for the Brazilians overall, and Ecuador did not utilize him in the Copa America this summer.
Cifuentes must leave permanently. While Aris is demonstrating their willingness to pay for the midfield player, you worry that he won’t live up to his record-breaking contract because he won’t be able to play there.
