Luis Palma, who replaced the injured Daizen Maeda in the first 35 minutes of the game, is the only player from the seven summer signings a year ago who appears to have a real chance of playing a significant role in the upcoming campaign. Celtic began the match with 10 outfield players who were on the team when Rodgers returned last June. In goals, Kasper Schmeichel replaced Joe Hart.
Two months on from winning the Scottish Cup at Hampden there are no new outfield players for Rodgers to select from but with August approaching he is eager for things to change.
Asked about new signings the Daily Record reports the Irishman saying:
I really hope so. You wish to get them in as quickly as you can. We will strengthen the team during the window, and their present group is working really hard on their own.
Prior to the USA tour, when they would have had 12 days and three games to adjust to the demands of a new manager, would have been the best time to make additions.
August’s schedule doesn’t include any midweek games, so Rodgers will have lots of time to practice as supporters watch for indications that the team has grown stronger and progressed during the summer.
