According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Paulo Bernardo is almost certain to make a permanent return to Celtic this summer. The negotiations are nearing completion after the Scottish powerhouses and Benfica agreed on a £3.5 million deal.

The 22-year-old Bernardo has consented to personal terms prior to returning to Glasgow, and this week, all parties are anticipated to strike a comprehensive agreement.

The winger played under Brendan Rodgers while on loan at Parkhead last season, and the team prioritized his return throughout the transfer window.

Celtic is eager to close the transaction as quickly as possible because the season is scheduled to begin on August 3.

Celtic is pursuing a deal for Paulo Bernardo after reaching a personal agreement.
After passing through Benfica’s development system, Bernardo joined the squad on a professional contract in 2018 and went on to make 26 appearances for the main team.

His first taste of football outside of Portugal came via a loan move to Parkhead, where he had a productive stint under Rodgers’ leadership.

The winger helped Celtic win the Scottish Cup and the league after contributing three assists and four goals in 33 appearances.

He became a vital member of Rodgers’ team, and after his loan period ended, there were concerns that his absence would leave a big void in the squad.

Nevertheless, Bernardo was a top target for Celtic’s recruitment team this summer, and following protracted talks, they took action to sign him.

Throughout, both sides have been eager to come to an arrangement, and the £3.5 million transfer fee is less than the original £6 million asking.

After a settlement is negotiated, Bernardo will go to Glasgow to meet up with his old teammates and have a physical before the transaction is finalized.
