EAGAN, Minnesota Bobby McCain, a 10-year defensive back, was signed by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday in an effort to bolster their secondary depth and experience.
After being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2015 draft out of Memphis, McCain spent his first six seasons with the team. Brian Flores, the coach of the Dolphins for the past two of those years, is currently the defensive coordinator for Minnesota. Daronte Jones, the current defensive backs coach for the Vikings, was a player there for two seasons as well.
Following practice, McCain remarked, “I know so many of the guys who were out here with me in Miami.” “I’m just glad to be back with them and to be here.”
McCain, who is 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 196 pounds, was a cornerback in Miami. He started to take some precautions under Flores. He led the team with four interceptions in 2021, his first of two seasons with the Washington Commanders, and earned eight starts at every position. McCain was a member of the New York Giants last season.
Although McCain would play safety, Flores stated before the team’s first full-pads practice on Monday that his scheme is designed to be adaptable. The Vikings’ cornerback depth is far lower.
In order to create space on the 90-man roster, the Vikings dismissed kicker John Parker Romo, which essentially guaranteed a spot for rookie Will Reichard—their sixth-round selection choice from Alabama.
