According to a recent transfer update from Sky Sports, West Brom has submitted an offer for a “excellent” £5,400-per-week player and has already received a response.

News about West Brom transfers

Last season, Carlos Corberan’s team lost to Southampton in the playoff semi-finals, meaning they were unable to make the jump from the Championship to the Premier League. There’s fresh optimism that the Baggies will be among the front-runners for promotion in 2024–2025, but summer transfer activity is crucial to guaranteeing they have the best opportunity of rising.

Along with free agents like Devante Cole and Ousmane Diakite, Torbjorn Heggem has already arrived at West Brom from Brommapojkarna. Paddy McNair has joined on loan from San Diego FC. However, more players may be required, and other players are still being connected to summer transfers.

One such player is Isaac Price, a midfielder for Standard Liege and Northern Ireland who transferred to Belgium from Everton in 2023. The Baggies are trying to entice Price to return to English football. They have put in a bid for his services with the hopes of increasing Corberan’s midfield depth in the process.

Tom Cannon, a teenage striker for Leicester City, has also received support for his summer transfer to West Brom; should a deal be reached, a loan move seems likely. The 21-year-old may believe that a transfer to a different team would be ideal for his development after being limited to only three starts in the Championship the previous season.

“Excellent” ace up for auction at West Brom table
West Brom reportedly made a bid for Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles, but the League One team turned down their offer, according to Sky Sports.

The report continues by saying that the Baggies “remain interested along with others from the Championship and MLS,” implying that their pursuit of the Hungarian player is far from over.

Given that he has a 23-time Hungary international cap, Styles is an excellent football player who undoubtedly feels like he should be playing Championship football at this point in his career. The midfield player did enjoy his loan stint at Sunderland during the latter half of the previous campaign, but it could be wise to go permanently to a lower-division team.

The 24-year-old further demonstrated his abilities as he made one appearance for his nation at Euro 2024. Former Barnsley manager Neill Collins praised the player, saying:

“Callum is a gifted player, and he has performed admirably in the preseason, in my opinion as well. I will be happy as long as I have players like that. All I want to do is support him as he keeps getting better and develops into the player he can be. Everyone finds it entertaining to observe him.”

The £5,400-per-week Styles is still relatively young, but he has the quality and experience to be a fantastic addition for West Brom, combining defensive prowess and technical skill.

His ability to contribute with final product is demonstrated by his 22 goal contributions (13 goals and 9 assists) in 151 games for Barnsley. His impact off the ball is also evident, as evidenced by his league-leading average of 1.8 tackles per game against Sunderland last season.
