The Sun journalist revealed via his Patreon on August 26 that the Blades “wizard” is a Whites target who they are willing to pay £13 million for, but Sheffield United want more than that. Leeds United wants to sign Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United before the transfer window closes, according to Alan Nixon.
Before Hamer moved to Bramall Lane from Coventry City [Voetbal Rotterdam], Leeds wanted to sign him a year ago for a reported fee of £15 million [The Athletic]. Daniel Farke wants three more signings after Largie Ramazani arrives, and a medical has been completed for Tottenham’s Manor Solomon [Shay Lugassi, 25 August] but the deal has not yet been confirmed. Daniel Farke wants the former Coventry star at Leeds United once more. If the Whites could pull off a late deal after failing to do so last summer, Hamer would be a great addition. It remains to be seen if the interest is a sign that the delay in Solomon’s arrival from Spurs means that deal is in jeoper
After Glen Kamara moved to Rennes, Hamer, 27, might be making a more serious attempt to take his spot, and he would certainly be an improvement in the middle of midfield.
The lack of goal threat from midfield last season would be addressed by the Dutchman, who has scored 27 goals and provided 32 assists over four seasons in England with Coventry and Sheffield United. He appears to be an expensive prospect, but with over £100m coming in from the sale of Kamara, Rutter, Archie Gray, and Crysencio Summerville this summer, there should be a respectable budget available. Although supporters are displeased with how those four left, as well as the manner of the last-minute scramble to get incoming deals as a result, Hamer’s acquisition would help turn things around.
