According to a somewhat depressing “exclusive” from Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, Newcastle United is now in grave risk of not signing any players before tomorrow night’s 11 p.m. deadline.
He explains that Crystal Palace’s ever-increasing demands—which are rumored to have gone from £60 million to “more than £70 million” throughout the many rounds of negotiations over the previous four weeks—have forced Newcastle to grudgingly withdraw from negotiations to sign Marc Guehi.
A deal is reportedly “not totally dead,” but it would need Palace to lower their demands during the last 1.5 days of the summer transfer window. Guehi is eager to move, but he won’t press for a departure out of respect for his current team.
“The feeling is it is better to avoid making signings for the sake of it now when they can wait and get players at the top of their shortlist in another window,” The Telegraph reports regarding Newcastle’s future moves. Though it’s thought the team is still “open for business” and is looking at other options, our chances of landing a big player before tomorrow at 11 p.m. seem to be fading quickly.
Although the summer hasn’t been easy, the situation we’re in seems unacceptable given that our top two transfer targets, a center defender and a right winger, have been glaringly evident for the whole season.
After posting his most recent narrative on Twitter (X), Edwards wrote, “We have just over 24 hours left of the window.” Newcastle is still recruiting, so don’t be shocked if they don’t sign anyone.
They will not sign players who are not at the top of their wanted list, but they are not closed for business. believing waiting is preferable. If the Palace were to abruptly resuscitate the Guehi deal.
