Aston Villa injury updates and potential return dates.
Unai Emery’s team has made a good start to the new Premier League season as they aim to build on a fantastic campaign that resulted in a surprising top four finish and Champions League qualifying.
Villa’s thrilling season began with a victory on the first day of play against West Ham United. Despite losing to Arsenal at home, they responded with determination by winning three points from their brief visit to Leicester City. This made sure Emery’s team was sitting very close to the top four as the league activity ended in preparation for the season’s first international break.
In less than two weeks, Villa will be back in action, first hosting a struggling Everton and then traveling to Young Boys, a Swiss team, to begin their Champions League journey. When his players return, Emery will be hoping for some good news on the injury front. However, when might the Villa stars who are now recovering from injuries make their comeback?

The French player had surgery in February to repair an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and Unai Emery has provided several encouraging updates on him in recent weeks. The former Marseille player was said to be “progressing a lot” and may resume training “in a few weeks” prior to Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City. This suggests a return to competitive action in late October is not out of the question.
The England defender sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury at Newcastle on the opening day of the previous season, and his recuperation has been excruciating. Emery acknowledged that Mings is “feeling very good” and that he was “close to starting something with the team” last week. There has been talk of a return in mid-October.
Possible date of return: mid-October
Diego Carlos
The former center defender for Sevilla stayed at Villa the week before the summer transfer window closed, despite rumors that he was moving elsewhere. The Brazilian is expected to make a comeback at the end of the month after missing Saturday’s victory over Leicester City due to an undisclosed injury.
Possible return date: September’s end
The Poland international hurt his hamstring in the first 20 minutes of the team’s home loss to Arsenal, but he will be back in action following the international break.
After joining the team as a substitute in the opening day victory against West Ham United, the winger returned to Villa Park from Hull City during the summer, however he has only played 16 minutes. But Philogene missed Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City due to a knock he sustained during training. He is expected to make a comeback following the international break.
Possible date of return: mid-September
Bailey, Leon
After suffering a thigh injury within the first 20 minutes of the match, the player was unable to participate in Saturday’s victory at Leicester. Emery stated that Philogene should return right away following the international break, but he was less open when it came to Bailey’s potential comeback. It’s a hamstring (for Philogene),” he declared. I’m not sure how serious his injury is.
Possible comeback date: There isn’t one yet.
