According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Newcastle United is anticipated to make a fresh attempt to sign Anthony Elanga either in January or the following summer.
Senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke stated in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that despite a failed deadline-day attempt, the Magpies are still committed to signing their man and will keep tracking him this season.
Following Football Insider’s revelation that the team is attempting to tie Anthony Gordon down to a new contract, sources claim that any agreement to sign Elanga will not be contingent on Gordon’s future.
But other European clubs that have seen his performances over the past 12 months are anticipated to challenge them.
The 22-year-old has shown promise at Nottingham Forest under the direction of Nuno Espirito Santo and Steve Cooper, and there is acknowledgement that he might be ready for a promotion at this point.
Newcastle is also aware that because Elanga came through Manchester United’s academy system, he would qualify as a homegrown player for the purposes of European registration regulations.
