The Villans spent around £150 million signing eight new players during the summer transfer window as they prepared for this season’s UEFA Champions League action under Unai Emery.

Director of Football at Villa Park Monchi oversaw a number of obviously fruitful negotiations, even though the Spaniard was unable to land one objective.

But now, in 2025, Aston Villa will have the opportunity to sign him for nothing.

Jonathan David might be a free agent signed by Aston Villa.
According to a report from FC Inter News, Aston Villa made an effort to sign Jonathan David in the summer transfer window.

The Canadian international reportedly turned down a move to Saudi Arabia and was also a target for Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli.

But David’s story with Aston Villa is far from over.

The Lille No. 9 is set to see his contract expire at the end of the current campaign, and FC Inter News reports that the Villans are still very much in the running to sign him in 2025.
David, dubbed “one of the best strikers in the world,” even appears to have a better chance of relocating to the Midlands than Turin, given that Juventus is dedicated to maintaining Dusan Vlahovic as the starting striker, according to the Italian news source.

That would be some amazing business for Monchi.
It may be a unique business deal if Aston Villa is able to sign the man from Brooklyn on a free transfer.

David, who Chelsea also likes, had an amazing season last season, making 47 appearances across all competitions and scoring 26 goals and dishing out nine assists. He had previously scored 26 goals in 40 games in the 2022–2023 season.

Watkins’ dismal form this year is evident as he has yet to score in three Premier League outings. So maybe the Englishman might need a holiday.

Conversely, Duran has been on fire this season, tallying two goals off the bench.

In any case, it’s arguable that he should start, and if Watkins is sidelined, Emery might have the best opportunity to give the 20-year-old that opportunity.

David has been a consistent goal scorer in recent transfer windows, so it really is a surprise that no one has signed him up.

In 2025, Aston Villa should be the ones to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer.
