The availability of defensive end Marcus Davenport and All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell of the Detroit Lions for this week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is still unknown. Coach Dan Campbell stated that they will attempt to get both out there for Friday’s practice, despite the fact that both have missed the previous two.
“We’re going to try and get Sewell out there for a little while today. Davenport is the same,” Campbell added. “We’ll see. I’m not sure if they’ll play yet.
Campbell was questioned about if Sewell’s circumstances were comparable to those of Taylor Decker, the Lions left tackle who played with a high ankle sprain in the team’s Week 1 match. Although Decker had to miss the following two games, Campbell claimed that Sewell’s injury was a little different.
According to Campbell, it’s a little more medial than that. “We’re just trying to be smart about it, but it’s healing.”

The good news is that Reader will be returning this week, said Campbell. “It makes me feel fairly nice. Thus, the return of (Reader) gives us at the D-line a little bit more versatility. The reason for this is that Kyle Peko, Aaron MacNeill, Levi Onwuzurike, and Josh Paschal are all capable of playing anywhere from the tackle to the big end. Therefore, in the event that Davenport is unable to travel, they will all shoulder that burden together.
Together with the official game designations for their Week 2 showdown, the Lions’ final injury report is anticipated to be released on Friday at around 4 p.m. ET.
