Young simply hasn’t looked good in his first 18 games with Carolina. He has completed only 59.3 percent of his passes, totaling 3,122 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. In addition to his passing totals, he has 271 yards and a touchdown on the run.

Those figures will not get the job done for the Panthers.

Could they be looking to replace him in the 2025 NFL draft? There will be a few franchise-caliber quarterbacks to choose from at the top of the draft.

247 Sports has issued a fresh mock draft. Carolina selected Miami Hurricanes standout quarterback, Heisman Trophy favorite, and NIL superstar Cam Ward with the second overall choice.

“Cameron Ward is off to a fast start with the Hurricanes. He has a Howitzer arm and is more precise downfield than most other elite players at the position. He’s an Air Raid quarterback, which is a common criticism leveled at players who primarily pass in the spread offense. Ward, on the other hand, is unique in that his abilities can be applied to any scheme. Ward would have been an early-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft had he entered, but it looks he made the correct decision.”

In the first three games of the 2024 college football season, Ward has produced

Ward has had great success both on and off the field.

On3 ranks him as the No. 8 overall NIL athlete and No. 7 among college football players. They have assigned him a tremendous valuation of $1.9 million.

Ward replacing Young would be a very interesting move. The Panthers would be admitting a huge mistake. They would then most likely attempt to exchange Young and reclaim some assets.

While the 2025 NFL Draft is a long way off, it’s worth keeping an eye on. Ward is a very legitimate option for Carolina if they decide to go for a quarterback.
