On the first day of on-ice training camp, the Boston Bruins signed goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo to a professional tryout agreement. Kaskisuo joined the Laval Rocket late last season and went 7-4 with a.909 save percentage and 2.90 goals-against average in 13 games.
The 30-year-old goalie has appeared in two NHL games and 108 AHL games. The product of Vantaa, Finland, has a 53-36-13 record with the Toronto Marlies, Chicago Wolves, and Laval Rockets, with a 2.68 goals against average and.909 save percentage.
The 6-foot-2, 208-pound goaltender played for Leksand IF in the Swedish Hockey League from 2021 to 2023. He originally signed with the Nashville Predators following two years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he posted a 1.92 goals against average in his second season. Kaskisuo was named to the American Hockey League All-Star team for the 2019-20 season.
With Bruins All-Star goalkeeper c remaining unsigned for the foreseeable future, Kaskisuo provides professional experience and can serve as a potential backup to Joonas Korpisalo in the NHL, or play AHL games if Brandon Bussi or Michael DiPietro can take his place. Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney told the reporters on Wednesday that the team intended to sign Swayman by the December 1 deadline.
