The Carolina Panthers have reshuffled their outside linebacker depth chart. On Wednesday, former Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Tarron Jackson was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
The Panthers also re-signed outside linebacker Eku Leota, the team’s current sack leader after two games, to the practice squad.
Jackson initially joined the Carolina practice squad following the NFL’s cut-down deadline. Jackson, a 2021 sixth-round draft pick from Coastal Carolina, has spent the previous three seasons with the Eagles. The Aiken, South Carolina native was released by the Eagles in August.
Jackson, 26, did not play a game last season, but he recorded 18 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in his first two NFL seasons. Jackson has appeared in 21 career games.
The 6-foot-2, 254-pound pass rusher will join Jadevenon Clowney, D.J. Johnson, and Charles Harris in the Panthers’ outside linebacker rotation. Harris was only added to the 53-man roster last week. Leota, who has been with the Panthers for two seasons, is leading the team with one sack after two games. He was waived on Monday and cleared the waivers on Tuesday. Leota will be eligible to be promoted to the game-day roster three times while on the practice squad. The Panthers’ roster presently has 53 players. The practice squad is also at its 16-man limit.
