The first objective of the 2024 season has already been accomplished by the Huskers. They had an unbeaten non-conference season.
They will now be prepared to play the unbeaten Illinois Fighting Illini tomorrow night. Nebraska (#22) takes on Illinois (#24). Although it looks like it might be a competitive game, I have no doubt that the Huskers will win.
#1 THE PASSING DEFENSE
The Husker defense has played well in the first three games. This has applied particularly to the passing defense. The quarterbacks have had to make a lot of throws on the run because defensive linemen have been in their faces for a large portion of the play. Luke Altmyer won’t be able to handle the likes of Jimari Butler, MJ Sherman, Ty Robinson, and Nash Hutmacher.
Additionally, they will force him to throw his first interception of the year. When it occurs, Malcom Hartzog Jr. will undoubtedly be prepared.
#2 RUSHING DEFENSE
After seeing Illinois’ game against Northern Iowa last week, I know some of you are thinking that Illinois will try to exploit Nebraska’s defense.
Although some would have thought that UNI was “running all over” the Huskers, this defense has only given up 70 yards per game in the first three games.
Although there were a few things that needed to be cleared up, Tony White and his team will undoubtedly have this defense prepared.
#3 THE RUNNING BACKS
The Husker running backs will need to establish a ground game in order for things to open up down field because Illinois has a very potent passing defense.
All four of the running backs on the depth chart should be visible at some point during the contest, in my opinion.
This will be the game that Rahmir Johnson uses to unleash some massive runs. There will be some huge plays, and Dante Dowdell and Emmett Johnson will be playing with more vigor.
There will be a hint of Heinrich Haarberg and Jacory Barney Jr. that the Illinois defense will also need to be aware of.
#4 DYLAN RAIOLA
Dylan Raiola has fulfilled the role that the Huskers have required of him. He has produced several excellent throws and deft plays. With a freshman quarterback who doesn’t play like a freshman, Nebraska will keep winning. He is clearly the squad leader, and he will keep making moves to give his group the advantage.
#5 THE HUSKER O-LINE
Dylan Raiola has been benched once in three games. That is rather good. He has been protected by his O-line, which has also allowed him to throw the ball.
A strong Illinois defense will prevent the offensive line from getting the pushes they require. Raiola will have the time he needs to make accurate throws as they will create some spaces for the running backs.
