After an impressive start to the season under Unai Emery, Aston Villa takes on Midlands rivals Wolves this weekend. One of their stars of the season, Morgan Rogers, has given a message to his teammates.

Morgan Rogers is not fooled by the Wolves’ early-season troubles.

The Black Country youngster from Aston Villa won’t use it as a benchmark for this weekend’s west Midlands derby. Rogers, who the Molineux men fiercely rival, was a trainee at West Brom and grew up in Halesowen.

However, Wolves’ relationship with the Second City clubs is also tense. Despite the fact that Gary O’Neil’s team has only managed to garner one point from their first four games, Rogers, 22, is well aware of the outcome of the previous derby.

He adds that nothing has changed in his opinion. “We played them last year; I know we won, but we know they are a tough team to play,” he remarked. They look uncomfortable.

“They dominated the majority of the first half. They are talented, particularly in forward positions. And we’ll be thinking about that constantly. Without a doubt, it will.

“They will continue to follow the same concepts and they still have the same manager.” Last season, it was hard to get going against them. We anticipate a fierce contest, for which we will adequately prepare.

Rogers is getting great feedback for Villa this year. Unai Emery, the manager of Villa, feels that he should have received a call-up from Lee Carsley for the senior England team earlier this month, not the Under-21s.

And he made his Champions League debut earlier this week when Villa defeated Young Boys 3-0 in Bern to honor the memories of former European Cup champion Gary Shaw. A goal or an assist is the only thing lacking. Rogers, though, thinks it will only be a matter of time until that happens.

“At this rate, I’m struggling to hit a barn door!” he remarked. Really, all I need is a goal or an assist. I have a lot of confidence. I’m stepping onto the field with a serious demeanor. I’m a huge football fan. I’m performing to the best of my abilities. I’m content as long as we’re winning. It would be good to have a goal, and I sense one coming.

It is unlikely for any member of Emery’s team to always know where they fit in. In light of the club’s tragic trip to Switzerland, where the news of Gary Shaw’s passing clouded Villa’s first Champions League play in 41 years, the Spaniard is anticipated to make changes for Wolves’ visit on Saturday.

Rogers is aware that he needs to keep his current level. We knew going in, especially during the summer, that we had made some significant additions, he remarked. They’re battling for our positions. The door is being knocked on.

We are aware that in the event that you do receive a shirt, you must claim it as your own as someone is watching you from behind. We are aware that our training requirements must be strict. We are pushing each other in this way. Being in this group is beneficial. The aim is what we all want.
