Following their disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales stated that Bryce Young remained the team’s quarterback.

This attitude persisted throughout the night, as it was reported on Monday that Young would be benched in favor of Andy Dalton. While Young admits he was stunned by the decision on Thursday, he also stated that he is solely responsible for his benching. “I made a lot of plays last year, especially in the first two games,” Young said. “For the most part, every snap landed on my hands, and I didn’t do enough. I accept responsibility for that. There’s a long list of things I wish I was better at.

“I’m always going to look in the mirror,” Young explained. “The circumstances are what they are, not just for me, but for everyone. Everyone is dealing with something. Everyone is subject to certain situations. If I went out there and performed better and we won games…at the end of the day, that rests on me, and if that did not happen, we wouldn’t be having this talk.

Young was selected first overall in the 2023 NFL draft by the Panthers, and his and the team’s journey has been anything but easy. He’s played for three different head coaches, had several play callers, and appeared to be a shell of the great we saw at Alabama. The squad went 2-16 with Young at quarterback, throwing 13 interceptions to 11 touchdowns. Canales has already stated that they do not intend to trade Young, but keep in mind that Young is still the starter. Needless to say, anything can occur.
