Sha’Carri Richardson, the world 100m champion, will not compete in the 200m at the Diamond League Final in Brussels after withdrawing a day after her 100m disaster.
Sha’Carri Richardson, the world 100m champion, has withdrawn from the 200m at the Diamond League final in Brussels on Saturday.
The American was scheduled to be the headline act in the 200m but has withdrawn for unclear reasons, with Dutchwoman Tasa Jiya taking her place in the lineup.
It comes a day after Richardson finished seventh in the 100m race on Friday, recording 11.23 seconds, while St Lucia’s Julien Alfred won in 10.88.
Unlike Richardson in Friday’s race, where she had a terrible start and struggled to recover, she chose to slow down, much to the displeasure of her admirers.
The Olympic silver medalist was supposed to right those wrongs in the con Saturday, but she has decided to withdraw, with a variety of hypotheses circulating as to why she did so.
It has been a topsy-turvy season for the American, who was regarded a hot favourite to win Olympic gold before Alfred floored her, and fans had expected a dramatic clash in Brussels after she avenged St Lucien in Zurich a week ago, but it was not to happen.
