At Yankee Stadium on Saturday, more than 40,000 fans saw soccer legend Lionel Messi play for Inter Miami against NYC FC.
This year, Messi was visiting the Bronx for the first time. Earlier in the season, Inter Miami played at Yankee Stadium, but Messi was injured and was unable to attend.
There were fans at the game from all over. The majority of spectators told News 12 that they came to see a legend.
“I’m thrilled to see Messi in particular. It’s like a dream come true to have him visit New York City,” said Niccolo, a New York-based admirer.
The meeting between Inter Miami CF and NYC FC was close. Even though Messi did not score, he did contribute to Miami’s lone goal.
The result of the match was a 1-1 draw.
