Liverpool play host to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield on Wednesday night.
West Ham beat Bournemouth at the London Stadium in the Carabao Cup second round, and it was no surprise to the fans when we were rewarded with a trip to Liverpool.
The Hammers faced the Reds at Anfield at the quarter-final stage of the Carabao Cup last season, and it was a night to forget for us.
The game was over before it began for West Ham when David Moyes named an utterly baffling starting XI to take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
In fact, the highlight of the night for the 6,000 travelling West Ham fans was when the away end serenaded Darwin Nunez with chants of ‘you’re just a ‘not very good’ Andy Carroll’.
Hopefully tomorrow’s game will be a lot more enjoyable for the travelling support, and the hundreds of thousands watching it on TV as well.
Slot says Liverpool star will miss West Ham Carabao Cup clash
The game kicks off tomorrow at 8pm, and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Whilst the Hammers fans may not be confident heading into the match, we all know that anything can happen in cup football on any given day.
And Liverpool will not be at full strength.
Harvey Elliot has been ruled out, and another key Liverpool star won’t be playing either.
Reds boss Arne Slot addressed the media this morning for his pre-match press conference and provided an injury update, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
Slot said, “It’s for sure Caoimh (Kelleher) will start. Alisson is getting there but the game is coming a bit too early. We’re looking at the weekend against Wolves but it’s tight.“
A big Carabao Cup blow for Liverpool
Alisson, who earns £225k-a-week at Anfield (Salary Sport), is one of Liverpool’s most important players.
Described by Anfield Watch as an ‘unbelievable’ goalkeeper’, he is crucial to everything good that the Reds do.
So having him unavailable for the Carabao Cup clash with West Ham will be a big blow for them.
The 31-year-old is an absolutely key player for the Reds, and his presence inside the penalty area will undoubtedly be missed.
Now the Hammers have to take advantage.
If West Ham could beat Liverpool at Anfield in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, it could well kickstart our season.
