Next summer, a redesigned version of the FIFA-hosted competition will make its way to the US. The competition will now consist of about 32 teams and will be contested every four years instead of annually.

Selected as the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League winners, the Seattle Sounders will represent Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. The United States will also have the option to send a different team via invitation; Inter Miami is rumored to be a possible candidate.

With eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi on their roster and aspirations of winning the MLS Cup in 2024, the Herons seem a logical choice. If an invitation were given to Florida, Inter Miami manager Tata Martino stated, “Obviously we would like to.” Who wouldn’t want to take part in the World Cup for Clubs? We know what our goals are for this year and what’s ahead, but those who have to make the final decision will decide on the other aspect and the qualification process.

Messi has been a guest of honor at the Club World Cup multiple times in the past, but not since winning that specific title in 2015. During a record-breaking stint at Camp Nou, he won the title three times while playing for Barcelona, adding international recognition to three of his four Champions League victories.
