Jhon Duran, an attacker for Aston Villa, has been connected to a move as Barcelona is rumored to be interested in the center-forward. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that other teams are keeping an eye on Duran’s position, although the Catalan giants aren’t currently working on a deal.
Duran was considered a high-potential project when he arrived, only 19 years old. When we fast-forward to late 2024, there is discussion over Duran’s future at Villa, especially in light of his rivalry with Ollie Watkins for the starting striker position, his prior performances, and interest from other European clubs.
Although he has mostly played off the bench this season, the Colombian forward is thriving under Unai Emery. Considering his performances, Duran may be annoyed that he hasn’t been given more starts by the Villans.
Several Clubs Monitoring Jhon Duran.
Speaking on Duran, Romano has provided an update on his future amid links to Barcelona. While the respected reporter reveals that other Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on his development, Barcelona is not now in negotiations to recruit him.
Due mostly to Watkins’ success, especially in the 2023–24 season where he scored more than ten goals quite early in the season, Duran’s opportunities have been restricted to cup competition rotation or substitute appearances. It is hardly surprising that several clubs in Europe have apparently expressed interest in the young Colombian player given Duran’s age and ability.
On the one hand, they might be tempted to take advantage of a guy who hasn’t quite cemented his place in the starting lineup. Alternatively, they may take a chance on his ability to someday surpass Watkins or even team up with him in a two-striker configuration.
Villa Open to Offloading Duran.
GIVEMESPORT has got confirmation from sources that Duran is being pursued by Chelsea and Newcastle United in 2025, and that their efforts to sign him have gained momentum. Villa is reportedly considering selling Duran if the appropriate offer comes in because it is unlikely that he will replace Watkins in the starting lineup.
Villa is probably going to want for about £40 million, and AC Milan is another team that might try to sign Duran. Even though Watkins has been excellent when used as a substitute, it could be wise to cash on if a sizable offer comes up if Emery wants Watkins to play center forward.
