With less than a week until the start of the Dallas Mavericks training camp, supporters are eager for the new season to begin.
September 30 is Mavs media day. The team will then head to UNLV in Las Vegas for training camp. Before returning to Dallas for their open practice on October 6 and their opening preseason game on October 7, Dallas will have three practice days in Las Vegas.
Dallas has assembled the best squad the Mavs have had since the Luka Doncic era began, and Jason Kidd’s training camp strategy will guarantee that the team gets out to a fast start.
Kidd intends for the Mavericks to practice twice a day in Las Vegas.
Kidd has scheduled the Mavs’ first two days in Las Vegas to be two-a-day practices, according to NBA insider Marc Stein of the DLLS Mavs. After that, on October 3, Dallas will get a day to themselves before their last practice on October 5.
According to Stein, the Mavs are in dire need of this “intense training camp,” as he described it.
Kidd’s strategy to having these intense two-a-day sessions will help the Mavs get off to a strong start. Dallas is coming off a run to the NBA Finals, which concluded with them losing in five games to the Boston Celtics. The Mavs made a wise decision in getting everyone back in the proper frame of mind before the season began, especially with so many new faces on the team.
It was a wise move to have the squad travel to Las Vegas for training camp in order to strengthen relationships, and it was even wiser to make sure that the camp would be demanding, with numerous practices per day. Dallas appears to be determined to return to the NBA Finals and isn’t taking their Finals defeat lightly.
The Mavs gained a lot of valuable bonding experiences during their preseason trip to Abu Dhabi and Madrid last year, and they will have plenty of opportunity to spend time together during this year’s training camp. Numerous players mentioned how important the camaraderie was during their preseason vacation the previous year, and they may experience something similar in Las Vegas.
For the first time in his NBA career, Klay Thompson will be wearing a new uniform, so all eyes will be on him during the preseason. He should immediately improve the Mavs’ shooting. With the Mavericks, Thompson is determined to earn his fifth ring, and it helps that he has already gotten to know a few of his new teammates.
Thompson was among the many Mavs players who traveled to Los Angeles last month to exercise and spend time together. He even went to Catalina Island by boat with his teammates, and he treasured the experience.
This “intense” training camp will help Kidd and the Mavericks prepare for the demanding NBA season as they aim to win the championship once more. Establishing a strong start is crucial for determining the season’s tone, and Dallas could benefit greatly from having everyone in agreement early on.
