The January transfer window is still a couple of months away, but one journalist believes that as soon as 2025 arrives, a Leeds player could be on the move as he aims to revitalize his career elsewhere.

Joe Gelhardt has largely fallen off the radar at Leeds, currently sitting fourth in the striker hierarchy behind Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe, and Patrick Bamford. This season, he has made just three appearances, totaling only 72 minutes on the pitch.

Since joining Leeds United from Wigan Athletic in 2020, Gelhardt hasn’t managed to secure a prominent spot in the team’s lineup. In total, he has made 57 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

Would Daniel Farke be open to letting Joe Gelhardt go?

In an interview with LeedsUnited.News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey provided an update on Gelhardt’s situation, indicating that manager Daniel Farke is open to the possibility of him leaving on loan. The young player, who is in his early 20s, needs playing time to demonstrate his abilities at the Championship level.

“Yeah I definitely think he is going to be up for grabs,” Bailey said. “When you are at a club the size of Leeds, it’s a bit similar to the Man United situation, it’s not always easy to move players on because they feel they can do something and things to offer.

“Gelhardt is still pretty young, I think maybe a loan for him because he’s still got a lot of time on his deal. I think he will go, but a loan more likely at this point.”

It’ll be intriguing to see whether the striker moves on when the January transfer window opens or if Leeds decides to hold onto him for squad depth. Although the No. 9 position isn’t facing an injury crisis at the moment, other areas of the team could make Leeds cautious about letting players go, especially since their main focus is on promotion.
